Don at a Beekeeping Talk

Beekeeping is an exciting, educational, fun and enthralling - it is easy to catch the "buzz"! Mike and Don offer a wonderful series of classes from Basic to an actual hands of apprenticeship.

Our classes are rotational, so if you can't make a session on month, perhaps you can make a repeat class later in the season. Classes are held at Schooner Farms near Weston, Oh. Class must have a minimum of 8 students. Reminders will be sent out along with directions to Schooner Farms.

Payment for each class is due at time of reservation. Payment for classes are to be made to Schooner Farms. We accept checks, credit cards and cash. Please fill out this form and we will email you a statement, just send payment in or call 419-261-0908 for credit card order.

 

Basic Beekeeping Class 

Learn about the basic equipment, tools, costs, legal issues, what to expect when harvesting your honey, resources and references.This class is the basis for our series. To become a beekeeper you need to know what you are getting into, while beekeeping is enjoyable it is also very complex and many folks jump in without regard to some of the realities involved. This class is a MUST for people considering beekeeping. Students receive a beekeeping book along with handouts. 

We offer a class session just about every month - pick one that works for you!

 

 

Advanced Part 1 Beekeeping Class

This class is the next step on your beekeeping education. Still using the book from our Basic Beekeeping as a reference we will delve into life inside the beehive, bee anatomy, bee life cycles, installing bees, inspecting your hive, what to expect over the season and more in depth information. This is a very intensive session that provides a very good look into the life of bees and how to learn what to look for so you have a healthy hive.
* Must have taken Basic Beekeeping or an equivalent class.

Advanced Part II

You are well on your way to being a well informed and responsible beekeeper! Our Advanced Beekeeping 2 class goes in depth about anticipating and preventing problems, Colony Collapse Disorder, Disease, Pests. This class helps you learn how to protect your investment and keep your beehive as healthy as you can.

*Must have taken Basic and Adv. 1

Apprenticeship Programs with SoBee HONEY

Mike Soboleski, of SoBee Honey, is looking for some hearty souls wanting to take their beekeeping interest to the next level - hands on! All apprentice candidates must have taken Basic Beekeeping Class so they have knowledge of hive equipment. Mike has put together an exceptional program for several levels of hands on learning. Mike will show you the ins and outs of beekeeping and even offers discounts on processing your honey! This is a rare and unique program - no one else is investing the time into actual hands on beekeeping classes in our area. You've taken a class and you are interested in getting your feet wet - this is an opportunity to learn from someone who really loves what he does! * A slight fee might be added for anyone over 25 miles from Bowling Green. Payment will be made to SoBee Honey.
